Prevent Frozen and Busted Pipes

The following are preventative steps to keep your pipes from freezing and busting this winter:
-Turn off outside water valves to prevent frozen pipes.
-Know the location of your home’s main water valve and how it works to shut it off.
-Conserve your home’s energy – but don’t go too low. Also, keep a steady thermostat. Keeping a consistent temperature puts less strain on the furnace.
-Make sure your water heater runs properly.
-Insulate pipes. Exposed pipes are the most likely to freeze. The more insulation you use, the better protected your pipes will be.
-Let water drip. A trickle of water could be all it takes to keep your pipes from freezing.
-Open bathroom and kitchen cabinet doors. This will allow heated air to circulate beneath your cabinets and warm up your pipes. Especially if they are located along an exterior wall.
-If you see water in your home or business then immediately shut off your water main. You can figure out the source of the water loss later!
If your pipes do unfortunately bust then you can trust SERVPRO of Hannibal to be there to make it “Like it never even happened.”
